Deforestation Reflection

Deforestation Reflection, the latest installation, was set within the expansive Nikola-Lenivets Art Park, the largest art park in Europe, covering 650 hectares in the Kaluga region. This park, renowned for its extensive collection of contemporary art and architecture, includes works by international artists, architects, and local residents, all brought together under the vision of project ideologist Nikolay Polissky.

The installation featured a striking image of a reflective sphere positioned against a lush, green riverbank, symbolizing the delicate balance between nature and human impact. This powerful imagery was intended to highlight the issue of uncontrolled deforestation in Russia, a critical concern that has suffered from insufficient governmental oversight.

Lectures

To provide deeper insights into the work, two video lectures were held. The first lecture, presented on the opening day of the installation, introduced the artistic vision and thematic concerns behind Deforestation Reflection. The second lecture featured a discussion with Professor Andrey Vitimovich Selikhovkin from the Saint Petersburg State Forest Technical University named after S.M. Kirov. Professor Selikhovkin, who collaborated on this installation, brought his expertise in forestry and environmental science to the project.

Through this installation and the accompanying lectures, the aim was to raise awareness about the environmental degradation caused by deforestation and to inspire action to protect and preserve forest ecosystems in Russia and beyond.
